Today, machine carpets have become an inseparable part of the homes of many of us. Considering that machine carpet is an expensive product, choosing a good machine carpet that has both high quality and durability and a reasonable price has become very important, especially when you know that machine carpet is one of those products whose appearance can't be compared to its quality and durability!
Machine-made carpet is a synthetic type of carpet that is woven by industrial machines, unlike hand-woven carpet. Due to the speed of production as well as the cheapness of the raw materials, it has a cheaper price than the hand-woven carpet, and its advantages are the simplicity of its implementation, the better pattern, and the higher quality of all kinds of artistic and personal images on it.
Machine-made carpets are produced by various machines, such as TEXTIMA, Van de Wiele's, Schoenherr, Alpha, CRX, ASR, VTR, etc. machines. The material of each carpet can be acrylic or BCF and a mixture of these two, or new artificial silk (polyester) fibers.
It should be mentioned that 100% acrylic carpets have a higher quality and price, but synthetic silk carpets are currently considered the best flooring in the world markets due to their lack of fluff and easy washing, as well as high stability and luster, as well as reeds-based carpets. They are divided into 350, 440, 500, 700, 1000, 1200 and 1500 reeds. The density of the carpet can be between 700 and 4500 depending on the type of machine and reeds.
The concept of reed and density
Each carpet has two types of density: transverse and longitudinal.
The transverse density of carpet (reeds): It is called the number of roots (color nodes) in one meter of the width of the carpet, which is known as reeds. For example: a 500 reed carpet means that 500 roots (color knots) are woven in each meter of the width of the carpet. The reeds that are usually in the market are 320, 350, 380, 400, 440, 500, 700, 1000, 1200, and 1500 reeds.
The number of roots (color knots) in one square meter of carpet: transverse density (shoulder) multiplied by longitudinal density. For example, if the number of color knots in the width is equal to 700 knots and the length is equal to 900 color knots; Therefore, the number of roots (color nodes) in a square meter = 900x700= 630000 knots.
The density is always greater than the reeds, and the product of the reeds and the density of the number of thread heads per square meter and the product of the reeds and the density divided by 2 or 3 (depending on the type of carpet weaving machine) is the number of knots per square meter.
What type of machine carpet should we choose?
We have several types of carpets in terms of fibers, which can be: wool, acrylic, polyester, polypropylene, and nylon. The characteristics of each of these carpets are explained below.
1. Woolen carpets: A woolen machine-made carpet is a carpet that is made from wool yarn (usually obtained from sheep). Since the wool thread is natural, it is durable. It also does not absorb dust. Wool carpets have many fans because they are soft. This type of carpet is strong and absorbs heat. It does not stain easily, and if it does, it can be cleaned easily. If your room is in a part of the house that is cold compared to other parts, use a wool carpet for it. Of course, because it absorbs moisture, it is not suitable for humid places.
2. Polypropylene carpets: 30% of the carpet market is dedicated to carpets made with polypropylene thread, which is also known as Olefin. This type of carpet is very resistant to moisture and mold and is suitable for homes that live in humid areas.
Since this type of carpet has good durability, does not absorb stains, and is also easy to wash, it is suitable for high-traffic rooms, especially children's rooms. In addition, because these types of carpets are very soft, they can be used for the bedroom as well.
3. Polyester carpets: Polyester fibers or BCF (Bulked Continuous Filament) are one of the most popular threads for carpet weaving because of their shiny appearance. In fact, with this type of fiber, it is possible to produce various colored carpets. Another reason that made polyester carpets popular is their stain resistance. Polyester fibers have closed cells. That is, they have no pores where the stains can penetrate and remain inside the carpet.
Of course, this type of carpet should not be exposed to dust, because dust easily settles on it and reduces its good appearance. Of course, polyester carpets are not as durable as other carpets such as nylon, and are not suitable for high-traffic rooms. Polyester carpets are available in various styles and qualities and with any budget.
4. Acrylic carpets: Although it is not possible to find machine-made carpets with 100% acrylic fibers, this type of yarn is combined with other types of yarns such as wool, and used for carpet weaving. For this reason, their appearance is similar to woolen carpets, and of course, it is soft and strong, they do not get stains easily, and they are not difficult to wash. Acrylic carpets are resistant to moisture, mold, and fading. But they are very sensitive to alkaline chemicals and turn brown.
5. Nylon carpets: almost two-thirds of the fibers of machine carpets are made of nylon. These fibers are resistant to dust and mold. At the same time, they bear the weight of household items, such as furniture, well. Nylon carpets are produced in different and beautiful colors. This type of carpet is very durable.
Of course, the color of nylon carpets fades over time and they look pale. Nylon carpet is the most expensive synthetic fiber in terms of price. Therefore, this carpet is more expensive than carpets with synthetic fibers such as polyester.
Carpet buying guide:
Today, there are many designs and patterns of carpets with different densities and combs in the market, and they mislead customers into buying machine-made carpets, and the question arises, what kind of carpet should I buy?
First point: One of the most important points in buying a carpet is to consider how to use the carpet and where to spread the carpet. For example, a carpet that is spread in the living room usually has a lot of traffic on it, and a carpet that is spread in the bedroom or kitchen usually has less traffic on the carpet. In choosing a carpet for such places, one should consider a durable and resistant carpet for high-traffic areas, as well as a soft carpet with a happy color for low-traffic areas. The carpets suitable for the reception hall are high-density carpets such as 700 to 1200 reeds machine-made carpets, and low-density carpets such as 300 to 500 reeds machine-made carpets are suitable for the bedroom.
The second point: in choosing the best machine-made carpet, we must also pay attention to our lifestyle. If you have children at home or keep a pet, use carpets that have a busy design and pattern so that they do not show dirt on them. And if you are a small family, you can use carpets that have a bright color with fewer patterns and patterns.
Third point: If you have considered a carpet for a place that is exposed to dust and dirt, dark background carpets such as navy blue background carpets, carbon blue and petroleum blue background carpets, and... dirt and dust and They clearly show the soil and are not suitable for such places, and the cream floor carpets also define the footprints. The best carpets for places that are exposed to dust are carpets with almond and walnut backgrounds.
The fourth point: Most people choose a carpet for the home when buying a machine-made carpet that covers the entire perimeter of the house, but this is a mistake. Always try to buy a carpet whose distance from the walls is at least half a meter so that the rear legs of furniture such as sofas can be placed on the floor.
Tip five: never use the same color to match the carpet with the sofa or match the carpet with the home furniture and always use contrasting colors such as white and black or cream and brown to make the home furniture appear more beautiful and attractive
Sixth tip: If you are considering a carpet for a small place and you want the home space to appear larger, use carpets with a light background because such carpets make the home space appear larger than it is, if a carpet for If you have a very large and secluded place in mind, choose a carpet with a busy design and pattern and with a dark background to make the space and environment of the house appear more attractive and livelier. Dark background carpets create a cozy, warm, and intimate atmosphere.
How to increase the life of the carpet?
Like any other object, the carpet also needs maintenance. By following some tips, you can increase the life of your carpet and keep it looking new for a longer time:
Do not let direct sunlight shine on the carpet.
Do not place the carpet near sources of heat and fire.
To move the carpet, roll it, and never try to fold the carpet because it will break it.
Do not place the carpet in wet places because moisture causes the carpet to rot.
Do not place heavy items such as furniture and wardrobes on the carpet because it causes the fibers to be compressed at one point, and if you are forced to do so, change the place of the items placed on the carpet as often as possible.
Turn the carpet once in a while so that it is not exposed to wear.
Vacuum the carpet once a week.
Spread the carpet under the doors so that it is not in constant contact with it.
Leave the washing of the carpet to reputable carpet cleaning companies and avoid washing it at home.
The longitudinal density of the length of the carpet (density): It is called the number of roots (color nodes) in one meter of the vertical length of the carpet. For example: a carpet with a density of 700 means that there are 700 roots (color knots) woven in one meter of carpet vertical length, the densities that are usually in the market are 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1400, 2550, 3000, 3200, 3600, and 4500 rows.
